The fiancée of slain Tucson police recruit Carlos Ramirez is "recovering from her injuries, and their unborn child is safe," according to a fundraiser for the family.
The 23-year-old, pregnant woman, whose name has not been released, was shot and wounded in the shooting early Wednesday that killed Ramirez, also 23. She worked as a Pima County corrections officer.
Ramirez was just days away from his graduation from the police academy. He was a member of the Tucson Police Department’s Basic Recruit Class 26-1 and had completed 23 weeks of training at the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center. He previously worked as a corrections officer for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.Â

Two separate fundraisers have been launched to help the Ramirez family in the aftermath of the fatal shooting.
A GoFundMe fundraiser was organized by Brynn Perez, who said she worked closely with the wounded fiancée and identified herself as a corrections sergeant.
The GoFundMe had raised more than $16,000 as of 3 p.m. Friday.
The Erik Hite Foundation, in partnership with the Tucson Police Department, launched a second fundraiser Friday for the family.
The foundation stated 100% of all donations would go directly to the Ramirez family.
All donations would "assist with unexpected expenses, medical costs, household bills, childcare, and other immediate needs as they navigate this devastating tragedy," the organization stated.Â
