Literacy Connects needs volunteers to work with Tucson-area children and adults.
Literacy Connects’ children program, Reading Seed, organizes and coaches volunteers who then work one-on-one with struggling readers. The area with the greatest need is in southwest TUSD schools. New coach training will be held Thursday.
The nonprofit agency’s multiple adult programs provide a link for people who need to improve their skills to get into job training, GED and other programs. Volunteers work with adults on reading, writing, math and English. Orientation for the adult programs is on Wednesday.
Last year more than 1,500 Literacy Connects volunteers served more than 50,000 learners of all ages in Southern Arizona.
The organization is also seeking volunteers to clean gently used books, which are provided free to children to encourage a love of reading.
People are also reading…
Donations of gently used books, picture dictionaries and low- and mid-level books are appreciated.
