Pueblo sends five
to Ivy League Project
Five Pueblo Magnet High School students have been chosen for the Ivy League Project, a two-year program that develops students’ leadership and academic skills.
Topacio Salazar, Esmeralda Salazar, Ciara Lugo, Shaira Perez Flores and Damaris Ponce were five of 22 Arizona students selected for the program, which takes students on a tour of the east coast and prepares them to apply for and attend Ivy League institutions.
The Arizona Ivy League Project is open to sophomores and juniors who come from an economically disadvantaged backgrounds and have at least a 3.75 grade average. The TUSD students will hold fundraisers to cover the cost of the trip. They can also accept tax-credit donations at tusd1.org/taxcredit

TUSD open enrollment
Open enrollment has begun in the Tucson Unified School District.
In TUSD, families can apply to have children attend any district school or magnet program through open enrollment. The district’s magnet schools offer programs and classes in specific areas, such as fine and performing arts, science, math, technology, and more.
To be considered for the first-round lottery for limited spaces, parents wishing to get their children into their schools of choice need to apply by Dec. 12.
Application forms are available at the district’s School Community Services office, 1010 E. 10th St. in Building B. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Forms can also be found online at tusd1.org/enroll

40 years of Thornydale
Thornydale Elementary School is celebrating its 40th anniversary with festivities on Saturday.
Students, parents, staff and community members are invited to the celebration at 10:30 a.m., including student and staff music, theatrical performances and an action hero obstacle course. Guests will have the opportunity to view the new tortoise habitat, the Ben’s Bells mosaic and more. Tucson Food Trucks will also be on campus, 7651 N. Oldfather Road.
