4 educators are named top aspiring principals
Four Pima County educators have been named Rodel Aspiring Principals.
The Rodel Exemplary Principal initiative was designed to address the looming shortage of principals.
The winners are:
• Denise Coronado, assistant principal of Picture Rocks Intermediate School.
• DeDee Krause, academic coach at Elvira Elementary School.
• Jennifer Letts, clinical assistant professor at the University of Arizona in partnership with the Flowing Wells Unified School District.
• Laurie Sheber, clinical assistant professor at the UA in partnership with Amphitheater Public Schools.
Each has a history of student achievement and is committed to working with students in high-need areas.

Sahuarita's Gloy wins excellence award
When Patti Gloy's class was interrupted last Monday, the Sahuarita Middle School teacher was concerned her students might not get their work done.
The surprise visit from Tucson Values Teachers was to honor Gloy with the organization's Teacher Excellence Award.
Nominated by her principal, Stephanie Silman, Gloy was humble, saying she just does her job. But Silman said Gloy goes beyond - offering to wash students' P.E. clothes if they don't have the means and communicating with parents daily.
"You never know what someone else's life is like," Gloy said. "If you can pick up and help, as human beings I think we should do that for one another."
Gloy is an alternative teacher. She works with students on short-term in-school suspension, as well with those who need extra support in regular classes.
Recent TUSD job fair may have rescued 65
About 65 employees who were facing layoffs in the next school year may have landed themselves positions during a TUSD job fair.
The job fair, held April 17 at Mansfeld Middle School, was attended by more than 300 employees. There were 128 vacancies to fill.
The Tucson Unified School District has notified about 200 certified employees, including teachers, counselors and librarians, that they may not have a position at their current site in the next school year. They were placed in a transfer pool.
Those unable to find jobs by mid-May will be terminated.
As of Tuesday, about 150 employees still were in the transfer pool.
