Marty Cortez announced Monday she is resigning from the PCC Governing Board, where she has served since 1994.
Cortez said she is resigning for personal reasons, according to a news release from Pima Community College.
"I have full confidence that Chancellor (Lee) Lambert has and will, with the support of the Board and dedicated college employees, continue to move the College forward in providing educational opportunity for thousands of individuals as well as contributing to the business and economic growth of the community," Cortez said in the news release.
"It has been an honor to have served as a Pima Community College member over the years," she said.
Cortez, a retired school principal who has worked for the Tucson, Nogales, Amphitheater and Sunnyside school districts, was first elected to the board in 1994. She served three complete terms and was re-elected to another term in 2013. Her term was to expire Dec. 31, 2018.

Arizona law requires the appointment of a successor for the term be made by Linda Arzoumanian, Pima County superintendent of schools.
"We are grateful for Marty's long years of service, and her remarkable commitment to Pima Community College," Lambert said in the news release.
The college in March was taken off probation by its accreditor. The school had been on probation since 2013 after the Higher Learning Commission found evidence of systemic mismanagement and lax governance.
The school was placed on a lesser sanction to reflect that the college remains "at risk" for problems and it must make several changes in order to be removed from the lesser sanction by the HLC.
