Students and families returning to Mica Mountain High School at the start of the school year will encounter a new traffic pattern at the campus entrance.
Last month, the Pima County Transportation Department installed a "Flying T" intersection at the entrance to the school at 10800 E. Valencia Road.
The design is intended to improve traffic flow and increase safety for student drivers leaving campus, a county news release says.
A Flying T intersection is a three-way junction that allows one direction of traffic on the main road to continue without stopping while providing a protected lane for drivers turning onto or merging with the roadway.
Last month, the Pima County Transportation Department installed a "Flying T" intersection at the entrance to Mica Mountain High School in Vail.
"After becoming aware of a safety concern in the area, the Transportation Department set up a special T-shaped intersection at the entrance to the school parking lot," the release says.

The county previously installed a Flying T intersection near Andrada High School, 12960 S. Houghton Road, according to the release.
Flowing Wells adopts new budget
The Flowing Wells School District governing board voted to adopt a $41.2 million budget Tuesday morning for the 2026-2027 school year.
The adopted budget is about $2.5 million smaller than last year's. That's primarily because the district is budgeting less for federal grants and capital projects, along with a slight reduction in its maintenance and operations budget.
Pilates fundraiser for Sunnyside Foundation
Studio Fuerza and Upleveled Wellness will host an outdoor Pilates and strength class fundraiser Friday evening at the Arizona Sands Club, 565 N. Cherry Ave.
Proceeds will support nurse offices in the Sunnyside Unified School District by providing snacks and water for students as they return to school, according to the Sunnyside Foundation.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and will feature aguas frescas, light bites and a photo booth. Tickets are $35.
