It's National Engineers Week, and Tucsonans are celebrating with contests at the University of Arizona and kids' activities at Raytheon Missile Systems.
More than 150 students toured Raytheon on Monday and took part in an interactive liquid-nitrogen demonstration.
The University of Arizona's many student engineering clubs have events planned all week, including an industry expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the student union. Other activities are sponsored by Motorola, Lockheed Martin and Texas Instruments.
The point is to increase awareness of engineering and technology careers.
"We can actually use the skills we learn in class in some fun events," said Becky Witte, Engineering Student Council president.
Today the Society of Women Engineers hosts a pageant to crown Mr. and Ms. Engineering.

Other campus events include flying paper airplanes off one of the engineering buildings and drilling through the boulders in front of Old Main.
The week's festivities end Saturday when 75 Raytheon employees will help 300 local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts earn a badge in engineering, electronics, space exploration or radio.
