There is a quiet revolution happening around our country recently. People across the political spectrum are starting to listen to one another, to build trust with each other, to accept one another, to understand one another. A number of movements are gaining momentum with organizations such as Braver Angels, Crossing Party Lines, Sez.us, and Civic Renaissance (Google them). In Congress, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan has introduced a bill, called the Building Civic Bridges Act, which aims to establish an Office of Civic Bridgebuilding designed to foster relationships and cooperation among diverse communities, promoting civic engagement and reducing polarization. Americans are tired of the vilifying, demonizing, and vitriolic hatred going around our country. It is a weak America whose citizens are constantly attacking each other. We can, and we will, show the world that we are a strong America, no matter what forces seek to divide us.
