My mailbox has been flooded with oversize TEP flyers claiming that voting yes on Prop 421 will “keep Tucson cooled off.” Tucson Clean and Beautiful plants saplings ranging from 3 to 6 feet tall that will take 5 to 10 years to grow to a size providing shade and cooling.
Meanwhile, TEP’s recently announced Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) guarantees that for the next 15 years the majority of its electricity generation will come from burning fossil fuels, which will continue to pollute our air, raise the already increasing temperatures even further (creating more demand for cooling/electricity), deplete our water supply, exacerbate drought, and harm our health.
Following its usual course of action, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) will continue to negligently ignore its constitutional duty to optimize ratepayer benefits and will rubber stamp both the utility’s IRP and its ask for an unjustified 11% rate increase.
