Please ignore State + Local Election Alliance's push to non-retain 3 judges. Why does SLEA say we should vote against them? Because they've been reversed on appeal. That's nonsense. Trump blasted judges for the same thing. Don’t we want conscientious rulings even when they might get reversed on appeal?
In Thursday's Political Notebook, SLEA was described as a "Democratic-leaning outfit." Hard to tell. Their webpage attacks Judge Alan Goodwin, for example, with the law-and-order scare-mongering that Republicans typically use. Apparently, the life-long prosecutor is too soft on crime for SLEA. (Disclosure: I work with his wife. We disagree about most political issues.)
If SLEA was truly concerned about those responsible for running elections it would encourage votes for Adrian Fontes for Secretary of State. Or encourage non-retention of the one Arizona Supreme Court justice on the ballot, Justice John Lopez. For a better voting guide, see Civic Engagement Beyond Voting's 2026 Gavel Watch.
