I believe it was the character “’ Pappy’ Maverick” (“Bret’s” and “Bart’s” father in the 60’s western) who said, “One man’s political embarrassment is another man’s jail term.”
As a long-time scientific researcher, I am absolutely appalled at the prospect of my colleagues having even higher percentages of their grant funding appropriated for the purposes of bailing out the UofA over financial mismanagement, almost as much as I am as a sports season-ticket holder seeing my prices go up perhaps as much as 25% for the same reasons. Although I trust that there will be a reckoning regarding the continued employment of those university officials directly involved in the matter, I wonder if the highest level of administrators intends to demonstrate any remorse or accountability by, say, returning 25% or more of their salaries to the university as atonement for their lack of oversight.
