I watched the U of A men’s basketball game against BYU this past weekend, and, like all Wildcats fans, I was disappointed in the result. Sadly, my disappointment was compounded by discovering that the truly bad news from that night had nothing to do with the home team losing a basketball game but with the loss of decency exhibited after the game. Too bad that the whole endeavor was polluted by a bunch of brutish, foul-mouthed sore losers in the student section at McKale Center who taunted and cursed at the BYU players in the most intolerant and intolerable way by chanting “F—the Mormons” in a coordinated manner. What a despicable display of poor sportsmanship and bigotry. Shame on those students, anyone present who remained silent, and those who think it funny. Shame on all of us if we don’t condemn it in the harshest terms.
