The Arizona Wildcats are expected to move back the start of spring football practice by a few days to give coaches more time to prepare after National Signing Day.
The new, tentative start date for spring practice is Feb. 10. The scheduled start date had been Feb. 5. National Signing Day is Feb. 3.
The Wildcats' open-to-the-public spring scrimmage still is scheduled for March 4. It’s likely that Arizona will have additional practices after that date. Schools are allowed 15 spring workouts in all and typically average 3-4 per week.
Coach Rich Rodriguez wanted to get an early jump on spring ball after the Wildcats’ 2015 season ended relatively early, on Dec. 19. Even with the start date pushed back by five days, Arizona still will commence spring workouts about 3½ weeks earlier than in Rodriguez’s previous seasons.

The slightly later start date also will give Rodriguez more time to get a defensive line coach in place. Rodriguez and his staff currently are spending the bulk of their time on recruiting.
