In a season-to-remember at Pima College, coach Todd Holthaus' Aztecs won the NJCAA national championship in women's basketball, coach Brian Peabody’s men's basketball team went 35-1 to finish fifth nationally, and coach Dave Cosgrove’s Aztecs reached the "Final Four" of men's soccer.
Now comes Rebekah Quiroz’s PCC softball team, which took a 34-5 record into Saturday's doubleheader against Glendale College and is ranked No. 10 nationally.
Pima sophomore Julissa Lopez went 5-for-8 with four RBIs and a run scored vs. Mesa CC Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Quiroz, a former state championship infielder at Flowing Wells High School, is 26-4 in the ACCAC. You could almost see this coming; Quiroz's club went 53-9 last year and 35-7 to win the ACCAC. She has recruited especially well in Southern Arizona. Sabino's Alyssa Aguirre is hitting .515, Tucson High's Julissa Lopez is hitting .409, Mountain View's Clarissa Figueroa is hitting .426 and Sahuarita's Izabel Rodriguez is batting .438.
