Pima Community College students will pay 7.6 percent more to study there this fall, a bigger-than-average tuition hike that will help fund fixes for past mismanagement of the school.
The board that governs PCC approved a $5 per credit hour tuition increase late Wednesday. That’s roughly double the average increase of about $2.50 being proposed by other Arizona college districts.
The PCC increase, passed by a 4-1 vote, will add $150 to the basic tuition bill of a full-time, in-state student taking 30 credits a year. Such a student now pays $1,965, a figure that will rise to $2,115.
Until now, the Tucson school had the third-lowest tuition rate in the state.
The change will add about $3 million to PCC’s coffers at a time the school is on probation with its accrediter and plans to spend more than $4 million to start improving its operations.
