A response to the letter writers who make claims that if Donald Trump is elected, the US will turn into an autocracy. Example: "If you vote for Donald Trump, you will get a dictator on the first day. So, vote for Joe Biden for democracy," by a Star letter writer on May 10, 2024. Please explain HOW Trump could do this.
Let's eliminate use of the military in a coup. The Uniformed Code of Military Justice (USMJ) says this about unlawful orders. "Orders or regulations that violate the Constitution, the laws of the United States, or lawful superior orders are considered unlawful." If Trump were to issue such an order to the active, reserve or national guard units to initiate a coup, all commanders are under oath to defend and protect the Constitution, not the president, and required by the UCMJ to disobey any order related to supporting a dissolution of the US government. Next fantasy, please.
