I believe that HB 2629, proposed by Arizona’s speaker of the House, Ben Toma, should be amended and passed into law. The amendment should state that, in addition to a mandatory course for high schoolers teaching that communism is bad, Arizona will enact a mandatory course for Arizona legislators, senators and representatives teaching that democracy is good.
The Arizona Legislature has enacted laws restricting voting rights and has attempted repeatedly to prevent Arizona voters from enacting their own laws through the initiative process. Arizona Representatives Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar, Debbie Lesko, and David Schweikert voted to overturn the results of 2020 presidential election. Clearly, these people need education about democracy.
