Letter: WHY, WHY

An interesting LTE dated Aug. 15 listed a number of sayings, on of which caught my eye. That saying was “Why do people with no experience in education think they can be education administrators? And why do we vote for them?”. Taken a face value, this is an euridite statement. However, when examining the facts, especially that when compared to the rest of the developed countries, the United States is 36th out of 40 in K-12 test proficiency while spending more than any other nation per student. What? How can the be? Obviously, the experts in education are doing a terrible job because their main goal, educating students, is an afterthought. With this history, the only path is to change course, remove the so-called experts who have failed our kids and start over with the simple goal of teaching our kids to read proficiently. Is it possible that the new teaching concepts are ineffective and have failed miserably and it is time for a major reboot?
