Forty-three students from the Tucson area have been named semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship program.
The academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit scholarships.
Of the 16,000 semifinalists across the country, about 90 percent are expected to attain finalist standing and more than half of the finalists will win a scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
The local semifinalists are: Paul M. Cuillier, Carter R. Hesselink, Tristan A. Loveday and Zachary C. Tronstad of Basis Oro Valley; Nicole M. Enos and Michael J. Yuhas of Canyon del Oro High School; Ryan A. Larson, Scott McKinley, Matthew D. Mitchell and Mitchell J. Wagner of Ironwood Ridge High School; Aimee A. Askira, Swati Chandra, Xochitl R. Longstaff, Miles R. Marchant, Thu M. Nguyen, Alexander J. Poelstra and Elizabeth A. Poss of Basis Tucson North; Eric C. Arellano, David J. Cai, Bryan B. Hu, Michelle M. Jaquette and Alessandra Vanasco of Catalina Foothills High School; Grace E. Johnson and Skye M. Uldrich of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy; Kathleen R. Cammack, Lauren E. Conger and Julianne M. Lussier of Salpointe Catholic High School; Daniel E. Streeter of Sonoran Science Academy – Davis-Monthan; Kaylie A. Volpe of Tucson High Magnet School; Hannah C. Bergmann, Madelyn I.
