A 19-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night during an altercation with a man who had been sleeping in his car, Tucson police said.
Ernie Castillo was found shot about 11:15 p.m. near South Sixth Avenue and West Columbia Street, police said in a news release.
Witness told police they saw Castillo fighting with a man police identified as Kendall Harris, 30. They said Castillo then tried to walk away as Harris followed him, an interim complaint says.
Harris forced Castillo, who was not attempting to fight, to the ground and then shot him in the head with a shotgun, a witness said, according to the complaint.
Harris then called 9-1-1, it continues.
Harris told responding police he was asleep in his car when he was awoken by Castillo making a noise. He said he then confronted Castillo, who was holding a shotgun and a hammer, the complaint says.

He then got back to his car, and Castillo threatened to shoot his car and fired a warning shot at the ground, according to Harris' statement, the complaint says.
Harris said he was in fear for his life and fought with Castillo for control of the shotgun, during which he pushed Castillo to the ground, the complaint says.
While Castillo was on the ground, Harris shot him because he believed Castillo was reaching for another weapon, Harris' statement continues.
Witnesses told police they did not see Castillo reaching for anything before being shot by Harris. Police also did not find any other weapons in Castillo's possession, the complaint says.
The investigation continues.
