Green Fields wins $10K health prize
A commitment to healthy food and fitness has resulted in a $10,000 prize for Green Fields Country Day School.
The winnings were awarded through the national Find Your Balance competition, sponsored by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, Discover Education and Sports Authority.
The $10,000 prize will come in the form of equipment.
The student-driven project began in November with P.E. and health teacher Carly Parsons and 11 fifth-graders who created a breakfast market for students at their school.
Parsons had students fill out surveys to track for one week what they ate for breakfast, finding that no one was eating a balanced meal in preparation for the school day.
The students launched an experiment and learned that with a balanced breakfast, they had more energy for P.E.

In addition to the experiment, the fifth-graders surveyed other students - kindergartners through fourth-graders - on their breakfast routines and provided mini-lessons.
