As a retired educator and volunteer who has helped asylum seekers and refugees, I am sick to my stomach at another sign of our national loss of humanity and sanity. The Department of Homeland Security is considering producing a TV reality show in which immigrants would compete for the basic dignity of citizenship. ICE Barbie, Kristi Noem, and former reality show king Donald Trump who says he runs the country and the world (his words) and is having fun “blowing up Washington” are excited to turn suffering and hardships into ratings gold. This isn’t policy — it’s a public execution of America’s conscience.
Who wants to bet the proceeds will go directly into #47’s pocket? People who would support this cruelty as entertainment and enjoyment are sociopaths, which isn’t surprising from a puppy-killing DHS Secretary who when questioned in a Senate hearing this week thinks Habeas Corpus means “the constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country.”
