David Fitzsimmons' editorial carton Tuesday rightfully credits Chuck Huckelberry for his major accomplishments in implementing The Loop shared-use pathway, and for the recent paved connection between the Rillito and Pantano Wash. The Loop demonstrates what can be accomplished when local agencies collaborate on a common goal that benefits so many, in so many ways. The cartoon also illustrates two serious issues confronting all the of the user groups.
First is the misconception that The Loop is all about bikes. It isn’t, as there are also walkers, runners, and equestrians sharing the path. Second is the continuing problem of conflicts caused by the few cyclist out there who disregard other cyclists and the other user groups by riding too fast and too carelessly. I’d like to remind all of those residents and visitors who enjoy The Loop that it is indeed a shared use path, so be considerate to each other. And to those few speeding cyclists — slow the heck down!
