An alarming red flag of anti-democratic political sign destruction is happening in Tucson. I have seen political signs vandalized, destroyed and stolen. I hope the public understands what political intolerance brings.
We benefit and are strengthened as a society when we tolerate different points of views. New thoughts and ideas flourish in a community where speech is protected. If we cannot express our political thoughts because of censorship, a singular, arrogant ruling class will arise. A quick look at Venezuela and the Maduro regime shows what a singular ruling class does to destroy a country.
The destruction of political signs is a Class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to 4 months in jail and a fine up to $750. But the underlying meaning of this censorship is even more harmful to our society. Can we tolerate political sign expression? Can we stop the destruction of political signs?
