On Primary Day, Arizona Republicans showed us their values. For governor, they selected Andy Biggs, an election-denier and chair of the Freedom Caucus, tied to the Proud Boys and antisemitic extremist groups. For Secretary of State, they chose Alex Kolodin, a Trump loyalist who tried to overturn election results and restrict voting access. For Congress, they put forth Jay Feely, known for scapegoating immigrants, espousing the great replacement theory, and endorsing an end to birthright citizenship. Their prized pick is the gun-slinging drugstore cowboy Mark Lamb, forever embroiled in scandals involving sexting, threats and intimidation, racist messaging, and abuse of power.
Republican extremists are now headed to the general election and will try to soft-pedal their radical views and present themselves as reasonable, which they are not. They cater to our prejudices, exploit our patriotism, foster contempt of our institutions, fail to accept defeat, and brag about their abuses. No amount of rebranding can change who they are. Remember that on November 3rd.
