VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Eddie the Eagle will be back in Canada but he won't be doing any flying.
Michael Edwards was an inexperienced and unorthodox ski jumper from England who became a fan favorite during the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics despite finishing last in both his events. He will carry the flame during the torch relay for the Vancouver Games.
Edwards is scheduled to carry the torch in Winnipeg in January — one of 15 international torchbearers, mostly athletes, who will be part of the relay.

DUI nets driver NASCAR probation
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — NASCAR placed driver A.J. Allmendinger on probation Thursday after his arrest earlier in the day on a charge of drunken driving.

Mooresville police said Allmendinger failed a field sobriety test after he was pulled over. Late Thursday afternoon, Allmendinger was placed on probation until the end of the year by NASCAR for actions detrimental to stock car racing.
• USA Raceway will throw a Halloween party Saturday night as it decides points champions in four racing divisions.
Costume contests, Halloween games and trick-or-treating with the drivers are on tap. Gates open at 5 p.m., and general admission is $10.
When racing starts at 7 p.m., titles will be decided in Ump West Modifieds, Super Stocks, Factory Stocks and Modified Midgets. The track is at 4300 E. Los Reales Road.

Ex-Cat Levy arrested in Gilbert
GILBERT — Former Arizona Wildcat and NFL running back Chuck Levy has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and possessing marijuana.
Gilbert police say Levy, 37, was taken into custody on Oct. 14, five days after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court. That case involved an October 2008 charge of speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license.
Levy played at the UA from 1991-93 .
• Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi pleaded guilty to a drunken-driving charge stemming from her July arrest.
Taurasi, an all-star guard on the WNBA champions, spent a day in jail after a judge suspended nine days of her sentence.

Knight bows out of hall induction
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight will not attend next week's induction into the athletic department's hall of fame.
Athletic director Fred Glass said Thursday that Knight contacted him directly to decline the invitation. Glass said Knight was concerned that the interest in him would be a distraction from the other six inductees.
All living members of the 2009 Hall of Fame class, except Knight, are expected to attend in person.
Knight retired in 2008 with the most wins (902) of any coach in Division I men's basketball.
• In Doha, Qatar, Serena Williams became the first player to clinch a spot in the semifinals of the WTA Sony Ericsson Championships on Thursday, defeating Elena Dementieva 6-2, 6-4 for her third straight win in the tournament's round-robin group phase.
