The Pima College softball team went 1-2 at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Spartanburg, S.C., to finish its season with a 48-10 record.
The No. 8-seeded Aztecs lost 6-0 in the opener Wednesday to Des Moines Area (Iowa) CC. In consolation games, the Aztecs held off Northwest Mississippi CC 9-7 on Thursday morning, but then fell 12-11 to St. Johns River (Fla.) State College that night to see its season end.
“I’m so proud of this team," said Pima coach Rebekah Quiroz in a news release. "We showed a lot of grit this tournament, just like we’ve done throughout the year. We have numerous come-from-behind wins this year, and I think we just ran out of luck. A lot of this level is having all that extra luck and we just ran out. We deserved to be here more than anybody.”
Pima rallied from a 9-2 deficit against St. John's, but lost via a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh.
