Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced plans to expand in Arizona with a new convention hotel in downtown Tucson.
The Hyatt Regency Tucson Convention Center hotel, located next to the Tucson Convention Center, will open in 2027.
It will occupy the former Hotel Arizona, which has sat abandoned since 2012.
The long-vacant Hotel Arizona is getting a multimillion-dollar revamp in downtown Tucson. The Hyatt Regency Tucson is expected to open in 2027.
Hyatt said in a statement that the new hotel, the first for the high-end Hyatt Regency brand in the Tucson area, is "poised to become a premier destination for meetings, conventions, business travelers and leisure guests seeking an elevated hospitality experience in the city's vibrant urban core."
Hyatt's website lists more than 25 properties in Arizona. Some of the highlights include the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, renovated from a Hyatt Regency in 2024 to become Arizona's first Grand Hyatt, and Royal Palms Resort & Spa, a historic resort that stands as one of metro Phoenix's most acclaimed hotels.

Downtown Tucson will get a 291-room Hyatt Regency hotel next to the Tucson Convention Center. It's expected to open in late 2027, according to Hyatt.
The hotel will include a "state-of-the-art" fitness center, a pool area and about 22,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, including a large ballroom and multiple breakout meeting spaces.
What Hyatt expansion means for Tucson
The new Hyatt Regency hotel, which will be developed in collaboration with HSL Properties and Desert Hospitality Management, has the potential to bolster Tucson's ability to draw more national and regional conventions and large group events, according to Hyatt.
It aims to do for southern Arizona what its Phoenix convention hotel, Hyatt Regency Phoenix, did for downtown Phoenix when it opened 50 years ago.
"This investment reflects our confidence in Tucson’s continued growth and our commitment to enhancing the city’s hospitality offerings," Omar Mireles, president of HSL Properties, said in a statement. "Hyatt Regency Tucson Convention Center will serve as a catalyst for convention business, tourism, and economic development while providing guests with an exceptional experience in one of Arizona’s most dynamic destinations."
