After eight years on the TUSD Governing Board, Bruce Burke has decided not to run for re-election.
The financial crisis affecting public education is part of what influenced his decision to separate from the board at the end of his term, Burke said Friday.
"It's been a good run and up until the last year when the financial crisis hit the state, it's been a fulfilling responsibility and assignment," Burke said. "I am increasingly concerned about the financing for public education and the huge cuts that are coming our way.
"It's not something I signed up to be doing - cutting, cutting and cutting away at our district's budget."
Burke compared the state's current situation to a train wreck that will ultimately derail in public school classrooms.
Also contributing to his decision was the time commitment required and the fact that it would be his first time running for the board since all three of his daughters graduated from TUSD.

Burke said he announced his decision early because he feels it is a critically important position and hopes that someone will give it deep consideration.
