Iskashitaa Refugee Network has announced the third year of its Jim and Robbie Dick Memorial Social Justice Scholarship.
The scholarship awards $5,000 to one Tucson area high school senior each spring who has been an active volunteer and shows the values of equity, peace, social justice, human rights and cultural understanding.
Candidates must be going on to a university, community college or trade school. Award money may be applied to tuition, room and board or other costs at a post-secondary institution through their financial department.
The deadline for a completed application is April 1. The recipient will be notified by May 1.

Speakers, exhibitors sought for summit
The Pima County School Superintendent’s Office has announced the return of the Celebrating Resilience Summit.
The summit, “Building Resilience Through Connection”, will be held on Sept. 5 and 6. It will feature local, national and international speakers bringing research and approaches to growing the resilience in educational communities.
The summit is seeking breakout speakers and exhibitors for this event. Go to the Pima County School Superintendent’s Office website, https://www.schools.pima.gov/, to find Find breakout session proposal and exhibitor registration information. Proposals are due by April 15.
Arizona Autism Charter Schools award finalist
Arizona Autism Charter Schools, which has a campus for grades 6-12 in Tucson, is a finalist for the third annual Building Hope IMPACT Awards by Building Hope, a charter school facilities, financing, and services nonprofit.
Finalists were selected for their impact on community engagement, educational innovation, student empowerment, and for being model charter schools. Twelve grants will ultimately be awarded: one $20,000 grant and two $10,000 grants in each of the four categories.“
The 2024 finalists represent 10 different states and U.S. territories and also include seven previous semifinalists.

Tucson Values Teachers seeks video nominations
For Teacher Appreciation Week 2024 — running from May 6-10 — Tucson Values Teachers will be surprising five PreK-12 Southern Arizona teachers with the award based on video nominations submitted by students.
Nominations close on April 15.
TVT is asking students to submit a video nomination explaining why their teacher deserves to be recognized with the award . Students can submit a nomination individually or work together and submit as a group. Parents, administrators, and other adults may help students.
All PreK-12 Southern Arizona teachers in Pima, Cochise, and Santa Cruz counties are eligible . Five teachers will be selected for the award and will receive $250 cash from Tucson Values Teachers, a $100 gift card to Jonathan’s Educational Resources, and flowers.
To submit a nomination, students will need to:
Create a video explaining why their teacher should be honored with a Teacher Excellence Award. Videos must be no longer than 60 seconds and available in MP4 or MOV formats. Fill out a brief nomination form that includes the video file or a link to download the video.
