Rincon/University, Sunnyside and Tucson High were among seven local high schools to have appeals for their initial conference placements denied on Thursday.
Those are the only three Southern Arizona schools in the 42-member 6A conference – the state's largest classification – which denied all 18 petitions to move down. The six conferences are based solely on enrollment and are each about the same size.
Appeals from around the state will continue being heard on Tuesday. Here's a look at Thursday's results for local schools placed in 6A and 5A along with Tucson-area programs trying to move in the other four conferences:
