If you see a wolf on the Pueblo Magnet High School campus, don’t panic, it’s just the new mascot.
The student body has submitted its votes and the wolf beat out both the dragon and the puma, which were also vying for the coveted spot.
The mascot still needs to go to the site council for approval, said Pueblo student government teacher Travis Klein.
If approved, the costume will be purchased. The color of the wolf — blue, gray or navy — and the name it will go by have yet to be determined.
Victoria Real, a junior at Pueblo, is glad that a decision has been reached.
“Everyone else has a mascot,” said Real, who cast her vote for the wolf.
Sophomore John Godoy agreed, even though he voted for the puma. “I do like the idea of a wolf,” he said.

Pueblo students have been without a mascot for more than a decade after controversy erupted over Wally Warrior, a plump, cartoonish figure.
By the mid-1980s, Wally was gone, replaced by a more serious American Indian man holding a diploma in one hand and surrounded with symbols of knowledge, including an open textbook and a split atom.
That mascot was eliminated in the 1990s after complaints from community and American Indian groups.
Even if the new mascot is approved, Pueblo students will continue to be the Warriors, Klein said.
