The Copper Hills 12U All-Stars are among three Tucson-area Little League softball teams to win state championships this month.
Copper Hills claimed its first Arizona state title by going 4-0 in the 12U tournament in Mesa. Copper Hills clinched the championship by defeating Tolleson West End 7-2 Tuesday night.
Copper Hills is set to play in the Little League Softball West Region Tournament against Summerlin South of Nevada at 9 a.m. Saturday in San Bernardino, California. The winner of the West Region advances to the Little League Softball World Series.
Sierra Vista Little League also remains alive for a World Series berth after winning the state title at the Senior level by defeating Blythe 13-3 on July 12 in Cottonwood. The Senior League Softball West Region Tournament is slated for July 22-28 in Missoula, Montana.

Continental Ranch won the 10UÂ state softball crown, defeating Avondale 22-4 on Tuesday night in Avondale.
Marana was the runner-up in the Juniors softball state tournament. The Junior League Softball West Region Tournament is slated for July 24-28 at Arthur Pack Regional Park. Host Thornydale will face Blue Mountain of Oregon on July 24.
In baseball, Marana won the state Intermediate (50/70) title in convincing fashion, defeating Buckeye 18-8 on July 11 in Nogales. Marana went 4-0 in the tournament, outscoring its opponents by a combined 62-13.
Marana and host Nogales are set to play in the Intermediate West Region Tournament July 22-29.

Two area teams were set to square off Friday night at Oscar Romero Ballpark at Cherry Field for the Juniors baseball state title. The Randolph/San Xavier combo team needed to beat Douglas twice to advance. Douglas needed one win to qualify for the July 22-30 Junior League Baseball West Region Tournament in Bend, Oregon.
In American Legion baseball, Post 109 Cactus Cats (Desert View) and Post 132 Crush (Sunnyside) advanced to the state tournament. They each will play a best-of-3 semifinal series in Wickenburg. The semifinals were set to begin Friday after the Star went to press.
Post 7 Big Red (Tucson High) won the American Legion Junior state championship by defeating Post 12 (Wickenburg) 6-3 on July 12.
