Hoping to attract more pet parents from the city’s quickly growing east side, a new PACC adoption center is now open.
The new PACC adoption center on Tucson's east side is now open. The new location is intended to boost adoptions from growing areas of the city.
Pima Animal Care Center leased space at 7255 E. Broadway, at South Kolb Road, with $1 million in funding from Friends of PACC.
Between 35 and 50 dogs and a dozen cats have been relocated from the PACC facility at 4000 N. Silverbell Road to the new space, Eastside PACC Adoptions Center.
“We chose the name intentionally because this will be an adoptions center only,” said PACC Director Steve Kozachik. “We will not intake animals, will not have a clinic or enforcement unit at EPAC — 100 percent adoptions.”
The animals will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, except for puppies or kittens that are too young, but the costs will be covered once they are of age.

The adoption center will be open from noon until 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, it will be open from 1:30 to 6: 30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Kozachik said most pets from the Silverbell location are adopted by people who live in midtown or west side.

“We’re offering a product — furry new family members,” he said. “So, we’re taking that product to east-side residents who simply haven’t had the time to drive 45 minutes, or an hour one-way, to PACC.”
The project is funded by Friends of PACC, which committed financing for the next two years, after which PACC will evaluate the success of the initiative.
